NOTES FOR ‘X-RAY EYES’!
It is a simple program. You may be able to run it with
just a ‘left click’, if not use ‘right click and Save Target as …’
Depending on your system, you may not be able to run the
program direct, so you will have to ’right click and Save Target as …’
You may want to print these instructions so that they
are handy when you run the program. Just click on the ‘PRINT’ icon above.
When you run it you are first given the author page.
Press space-bar and you are asked if you want a detailed run.
The detailed run lets you see each cycle as it is
happening.
When you first use the prog, answer ‘Y’ to ‘Do you
want a detailed run?’. (use upper case – put your caps lock on).
Then you are asked for the number of cycles. As you
are doing a detailed run, put in a number less than, say, 20. Then hit enter.
You will then be asked to hit any other key than the space-bar to run each
cycle. The screen will then display the ‘patients’ and then display the
‘illness’ and the correct matches. Hit any other key than the space-bar to
continue each cycle. When you have done all the cycles you will be given the
average correct score. This, I have found, is almost always less than two.
When the set of cycles is complete you can hit space
to do another run, or any other key to exit.
To do an extended run, answer ‘N’ to ‘Do you want a
detailed run’. You will then be asked for the number of cycles for the run.
Enter several thousand eg 10000 (don’t put in any commas!) then enter. You will
then be asked to hit any other key than the space-bar to run the series. The
program will run – takes a while (PLEASE WAIT!) – and then give the average
correct for the run. If you get higher than two, let me know!
When the set of cycles is complete you can hit space
to do another run, or any other key to exit.
For the clever here is the source code for the prog.
