WHO'S A CLEVER BOY THEN?

In 1966, at the age of 33, I decided to have my IQ tested by Mensa.

On receiving the test papers, I got my brother uterine, Ivor, to supervise the test for me. He was reluctant to do this, as if I tested high it would be a blow to him. So, in a very sever manner, under strict test conditions, he supervised the test. He "poo pood" the whole event, but predicted that I would not do well. He would not, (could not), take the test as it just might topple him from his pedestal!

When the test results arrived, with an IQ of 150, Ivor was not pleased. "Load of old balls!" he said.

I went to the London School of Economics, London to take the official test. When the test was put before me, I was completely thrown. It was exactly the same test that I had taken at home! Or, so it seemed to be. (It wasn't but very similar). I thought that it was some kind of double test with a hidden factor. Anyway, I ploughed on with the test, but I was not concentrating as I should have done. Talking to the other people at the test, I came to the conclusion that I had done very badly.

When the test results arrived, an IQ of 134, Ivor was not pleased. "Load of old balls!" he said again.

I have carried out many IQ tests. The way Ivor did the test was disconcerting. He did not put me at ease. This is essential in testing. Therefore, I tend to accept the first test result as more accurate.

There is an IQ test for you to download here. It is for fun, but the result will be a reasonable indicator of your ability to think quickly. I used the test as part of a series for staff selection. It proved itself.

My children took the test at ages 16,15 and 13, and they scored 120. Their mother, "ol' Clo's" had a fight with me when she took the test. She had a job understanding the instructions. I assessed her IQ at about 75. Don't laugh!! You can go through university and get an adequate degree with an IQ of 80!

This is being proved now as about half the population have degrees. By definition, all these people cannot have "above average IQs".
